More proof: We already have them and we've had them for a while. I submit for your consideration Eric Diaz's list of 10 important gay moments in comic book history: http://wuzhatnin.com/2010/04/25/do-we-need-gay-characters-in-comics/

"By the way, you sound intelligent too. But if you are a liberal, YOU’RE NOT!"

It would be hard to sum up the unthinking, cultish conservative mindset any better than with that little ditty. Liberals = stupid is the only argument they have, and they pay good money to hear it echoed 24/7. Who cares on that side if it is not true in any real sense though? The point of Fox is to veg out on ego-stroking GO-TEAM!! yes-men ... to feel knowledgeable and revved up without actually learning much or ever having your beliefs challenged. It's about the emotional appeal of sporting-type camaraderie far more than it is about actual news or even politics, but its sure as heck profitable!!

PS: What grade-school type click doesn't have the primary argument of "no, YOU'RE stupid!!" ?

Wow. That's amazing. This explains why the recession can be over but the jobs still aren't coming back. It isn't that companies are not hiring. They're simply not hiring Americans. That blows!

Comment on DELL’s Strange Support Policy. Enough To Make A Geek Cry by John

The plot thickens. I spoke at length with Dell's Twitter representative and various others by phone. It has become obvious that the reason for the lack of support is that Dell has contracted the Out of Warranty repairs to a firm in India. This firm has a contract with Fedex which allows them to get packages to and from India fast, without any customs entanglements. They can't ship to me directly because the package would have to come from India (and we know there is no mail contact between India and the Netherlands, right?) The only reason they can't relay it from a Dell outlet in the States is because they never thought that far ahead.

The main fault here is that Dell continues to market laptops for sale to U.S. military members, though not informing them that they will be unable to get Out of Warranty support while outside the United States. If your laptop eats it while deployed to Afghanistan, you simply don't get to webcam with your wife and kids anymore until you come home---AND BUY A NEW LAPTOP. Though hopefully not from Dell.

I spoke with Dell Netherlands today. They said they can repair it here but I need to transfer my service tag from Dell North America to Dell Europe. I submitted a request but it takes a few days. Seems that they have a repair center here in Holland. Nice that the Dutch can get a few jobs that way, unlike the US.

The Republicans defend outsourcing. Tell me why I can't pay an American to change out my LCD screen? Why must a laptop with a N. America tag go all the way to India? Dell support explained the process to me. I was to pay $358 for the repair (before they decided they couldn't do it). That covered round-trip shipment to India and back, a new LCD screen, and labor. In other words, Dell pays $.00 for Out of Warranty repairs. So what confuses me is, if Dell pays nothing either way, why can't I let an American fix it? I mean, it's coming out of my pocket in either case. Why contract those jobs to India? Are you telling me that you can't find anyone in the United States today who could do one hour's work and put an LCD screen in a laptop and ship it to me for less than $358? Bullshit!

Yes, someone mentioned that to me today. I didn't know the PX sold Dells. Well, you'd better hope your computer doesn't break.

I did get a response from a Dell representative on Twitter since I've been broadcasting my displeasure there. We DM'ed a lot today. She had someone call me to resolve the issue but it turned out to be someone I had already spoken to who said she couldn't help. There was no change.

The Dell rep on Twitter DM'ed me again that she would try to have someone on the European side contact me to just do a repair here. That sounds great but I don't know why they didn't just suggest that yesterday.

We will see what happens.

That sucks. I didn't know about that policy. I have a Dell as well that I got thru the PX. I asked today and Aafes says they are unaware of that policy. Normally if it happens within your warranty period they handle it for you. Mine is almost 2 years old so it's out of warranty as well. Now you got me worried.

That's sad. You are saying, "Even if you guys are duchebags I'm going to help you make more money than ever because it's more convenient for me than giving my business to companies that work to earn and protect our trust." So businesses that need that support today won't get it, which means that when Facebook later controls all logins and content, and you have no other options, you won't be able to find a more secure place should you ever need it. Your short-sighted decision today will dictate your options (or lack thereof) in the future.

Someday, today's kids are going to grow up to realize what a group of losers this generation was. We have it cushier than previous generations but willingly suffer any disgrace, restriction, or humiliation by big business for the sake of convenience. We can't make any tough decisions. As a consequence, these kids will grow up and find a missing polar ice cap, a polluted Gulf of Mexico, and on and on...all for the sake of convenience.
