Those journalists that are speaking out against the White House are risking their journalistic integrity by taking a side. Defending their colleagues is loyal but stupid. Right now, it is a feud between the White House and Fox. By taking a side, they become part of the story. Without professional objectivity, you’re just another participant joining the fray. Individuals of varying fields of profession tend to unite in solidarity when facing scrutiny from outside the profession, after questionable actions come to light. For example, policemen are often criticized in the media when they show solidarity with a cop who was caught on tape abusing suspects or acting against department policy. No one should take a stand to show solidarity with individuals who are under scrutiny as a result of unethical behavior or acts that are lacking in integrity. To support such individuals is to show disrespect to one’s profession as a whole and even worse, to become complicit it their misuse of those who trust them. It would be understandable if other journalists had been pointing out Fox’s many inaccuracies from the start. For some reason they have chosen to ignore the unethical behavior at Fox and seem insistent that the White House do the same. It is, in a word…perplexing. Comments
