Palin Approval: All Time Low?

Sarah Palin without weapons or fishing tackle

First things first. This is either a ranting satire or a satirical rant.  I will step outside of my usual mode of analysis to to say a word about a figure whose affect on US politics has been more polarizing than any outside of conservative talk radio.

If you are like me, this story will shock and amaze!

I saw a HuffPost article, “Sarah Palin Ratings Plummet To All Time Low.” I thought well dumb luck can only last so long. I figured it would be down around 8-10%. If you read the story however, her approval rating is down to 40%.  Forty percent!?? THAT is an all time low??? For her??? I had no idea it was that high! That’s pretty good, even among rifle-toting tea-baggers isn’t it? Or am I underestimating the sheer stupidity of tea baggers?

No need to draw this out. All I need is a sanity check. Am I wrong about how low Palin’s ratings SHOULD be? Or am I wrong about how stupid tea-baggers are?

Either way, I think we can only come to one conclusion:

Sarah Palin is not WUZHATNIN!

Come on John, don’t mince words. Tell us what you really think.

John, I agree that she is controversial. But that doesn’t mean we should be mean spirited. Though if I am honest, I would not have expected her ratings to be that high either. Especially after quitting her job as governor to go on a speaking and book signing tour for money.

Look, I did not attend the tea parties but I AM a Republican. I don’t think it is fair to generalize everyone who honors the spirit of protest, which I am proud we can do in this country, just because they are protesting your side’s policies. Calling ALL of the tea party attendees stupid is inflamatory and ignorant.

Stephen, generally speaking I oppose attacking any group as a whole when individuals behave in an unruly fashion but here I make an exception. These people were brutes who dishonored our political process by being disruptive and stifling the discussion during the summer recess by using despicable means. The world saw that.

Then we saw people carrying weapons and swastikas at rallies and presidential conferences. We saw Fox news stoking the fire, saw people carrying racially insensitive signs depicting Obama as a witch doctor, and on and on.

Now, just like we say that innocent Muslims should not be targeted for harassment because of a few who committed acts of terror, but that most passively participated by not denouncing radicalism decades ago and even cheering it in some cases, so too are people on the right guilty if they attend a rally and don’t make it clear that the crazy, disruptive element does not speak for them.

If we heard Republican leaders calling for calm, and speaking out against bringing rifles and inflammatory materials to rallies; if we heard Fox saying that disrupting the conversation is counterproductive, I would agree with you. But NONE OF THOSE THINGS HAPPENED. If you cheer when people say your president is a communist, a foreigner, or an N-word, you are an enabler and therefore, GUILTY.

I will NOT apologize for calling such people morons, cretins, or stupid, for such they are!

If on the other hand, you are a Republican who disagreed with the unsavory tactics the extremists used AND who spoke out against intolerance, then regardless your position on the issues I apologize for lumping you into that group.

        Well John,
I understand you position as well and as an independent, I too find her to be very divisive. And that’s something we really don’t need right now.

Some people talk about values because their values are important to them. Whenever Sarah Palin speaks of her values it is ALWAYS in relation to someone else’s. It’s as if she is comparing them indirectly to people (democrats) with lesser values. She will never be a uniting influence on America by assuming a position of superiority.

Despite that, I think it is a mistake to engage them on the low level they have operated on this past summer. Remember, she IS the one who coined the phrase “Death Panel”.

That’s right Deb, she DID indeed. It was a stupid comment, which would only be believed by naive and stupid people.

THAT, is why I said I can’t believe that 40% of the people surveyed view the “death panel” architect favorably, even though that has been PROVEN to be a LIE.

Sarah Palin has been “forgiven” for every reprehensible thing that she has ever uttered. We don’t have to rehash the presidential campaign but even a mild overview would recall factless claims that her supporters are more than happy to overlook. I am just glad that there were enough Republicans and Independents who could see that Ms. Palin did not need to be near the helm of our country.

At the risk of sounding sexist, I’d love to see the percentage of those who support Palin that are female.

Ouch. You may have a point there. I would also like to see how many have tea bags stapled to their heads. I have to wonder what has happened to tea company stocks. Sarah Palin should have options.
