Elephant in the room

President Jimmy Carter addressed the elephant in the room by calling Joe Wilson’s shouting at Obama racism.  I think he is right that all of the Republican’s arguments right now are nonsensical.  They are being regurgitated by people who feel uncomfortable saying publicly that they don’t approve of having a black president.  So the other arguments become nothing more than surrogate arguments which stand in place of something they can’t state emphatically.  That there are so many of them has emboldened a growing minority to begin expressing the things that most dare not say.  Only time will tell how bad it will get.

Update: I asserted above that people who are uncomfortable with a black president use surrogate arguments to communicate things they cannot say emphatically. Boy, was I ever wrong!
